Clemson Will Play Wake Forest Sunday at Historic Riggs Field

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s soccer team will play host to second ranked Wake Forest in an Atlantic Coast Conference men¹s soccer match at Historic Riggs Field on Sunday afternoon at 5:30 p.m.

Clemson is 0-2-1 overall this season, while Wake Forest is 2-0-1 overall this year. This will be the first conference match for both teams. The Deacons are ranked second in the latest NSCAA poll.

The Tigers are coming off of a 1-1 tie with Charlotte last Wednesday night. Nathan Thornton leads the Tigers in scoring with one goal scored this season.

Three players, Zach Schilawski, Luke Norman, and Sean Randolph have all scored one goal each for the Demon Deacons this year.

This will be the 34th meeting between Clemson and Wake Forest in men’s soccer. The Tigers lead the overall series 16-14-3. The Tigers are 8-6 against the Deacons when playing at Historic Riggs Field.

Over the years, Clemson is 2-4 against teams that are ranked second in the nation in the NSCAA poll.

The 2009 season marks the 75th anniversary of Clemson soccer as the Tigers first played Furman on February 14, 1934. This was also the first intercollegiate men’s soccer match in the state of South Carolina. Clemson fielded soccer in 1934 through the 1939 season. Fred Kirshner coached the Tigers during this time.
