Clemson Welcomes Wake Forest for Tuesday Night Match

CLEMSON, S.C. — The third-ranked Clemson men’s soccer team (2-1, 0-1 ACC) is set to host the top-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons (3-0, 1-0 ACC) at Historic Riggs Field on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. This will be the 49th match between the two sides, while also serving as the 14th meeting between the two teams in the month of October. Clemson enters Tuesday’s match having gone unbeaten at Historic Riggs Field over the last 18 matches.

Wake Forest has gone 23-18-7 against the Tigers during the first 48 matches in the series. The first match between the two teams took place on Sept. 14, 1980, when Nnamdi Nwokocha scored a hat-trick against the Demon Deacons as the Tigers earned a 4-0 victory. During the month of October, Clemson holds a 6-4-3 overall record and is 3-2 against Wake Forest at home. Both teams have won eight-consecutive matches at some point during the series history. 

Tuesday’s match will be the seventh time that Clemson has faced Wake Forest when the Demon Deacons were atop the national rankings. The match will also be just the third time the two sides play while each being ranked within the top five.

Entering the match, Grayson Barber ranks second in the nation for shots per game, as the junior forward currently averages four per match. Kimarni Smith is tied for third with Wake Forest’s Machop Chol in the same category, as both players have averaged 3.33 through their team’s opening three matches. As a team, Clemson leads the nation in shots per game by averaging 19.67 per match. 

George Marks’ 0.453 goals against average ranks the junior netminder fourth in the nation for the category.

Historic Riggs Field Operations

When the Tigers take to Historic Riggs Field this season, one of the most revered venues in all of college soccer will have a new feel to it. We ask that all fans please adhere to the following safety protocols put in place to ensure the well-being of all fans and participants.

  • Please refrain from coming to any Clemson sporting event if you feel sick or are experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus.
  • A capacity of 1,000 spectators will be enforced at Historic Riggs Field. Patrons must wear a face covering at all times unless eating or drinking. 
  • There will be no formal ticketing for the 2020 season. All seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. All points of entry to Historic Riggs Field will be available.
  • Individuals must sit in a chairback and are not permitted to move the chairback at any point in the match.
  • There will be no access to the field permitted prior to, during, or after any match. 
  • Seats will be available in pods of four with a six-foot radius around each pod. Please refrain from sitting in groups larger than four.
  • The first three rows of seats have been blocked off to ensure safety for fans and participants. Please do not sit, or attempt to enter, this area of the stands.
  • Drinks and pre-packaged snacks will be available at the outdoor concession stand.
  • Restrooms will be available for all fans. Hand sanitizers will also be strategically placed around the facility.
