Clemson Upsets Fourth-Ranked Virginia 2-1

CLEMSON, SC–Freshman Tommy Drake scored the game-winner in the middle of the second half in leading Clemson to a 2-1 upset win over fourth-ranked Virginia in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer match at Clemson, SC Friday night.

Clemson improves to 5-7-1 overall and 1-4 in the ACC. Virginia drops to 7-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in league play. This was the 48th win over a top-25 team under Head Coach Trevor Adair at Clemson. This was also his 199th career win during his coaching career including his tenures at both Brown and Clemson.

The Tigers scored first at the 4:15 mark. Michael Brooks scored his third goal of the year with assists by Eric Cava and Nathan Thornton. Virginia tied the score in the 12th minute as Ross LaBauex scored his third goal of the season with an assist by Jeremy Barlow.

Drake scored the game-winning goal at the 64:49 point into the match. This was also his third goal of the year.
