CLEMSON, SC–The Clemson Men’s Soccer team will open its 2007 season Friday night as the 12th-ranked Tigers play host to South Carolina Friday night at 7:30 pm at Historic Riggs Field.
Clemson The Clemson men’s soccer team is ranked 12th in the preseason National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Final 16 last year and the Tigers return five starters from that team. Clemson also has 19 letter winners returning. The Tigers finished the 2006 season with a 13-5-2 record overall.
This will be the 35th meeting between Clemson and South Carolina on the soccer field. The Tigers lead the overall series 22-11-1. Clemson has won 10 of the last 12 matches dating back to the 1996 season. The two teams tied in 2000, and South Carolina won the match played in 2004. Clemson is 12-6 against the Gamecocks at Historic Riggs Field. At Clemson, Head Coach Trevor Adair is 10-2-1 vs. South Carolina. Overall Adair is 10-3-1 vs. the Gamecocks as South Carolina defeated Brown when Adair was the head coach of the Bears.
Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair has a 160-71-23 record at Clemson, as he is in his 13th season. For his career, he has a 194-95-28 record, and he is in his 17th season as a head coach in 2007. His .650 career winning percentage is in the top 25 among active coaches. He was the head coach at Brown in the four seasons prior to his tenure at Clemson.
