Clemson to play Creighton Sunday afternoon

CLEMSON, SC–The Clemson men’s soccer team will play Creighton Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Akron Men’s Soccer Tournament at Akron, OH. The tournament is an exhibition tournament. In the match on Friday, Clemson defeated St. John’s 1-0 in overtime. David Bell scored in the second overtime period to lead the Tigers to victory. Clemson is ranked fifth, while Creighton is ranked eighth. Akron is ranked ninth, and St.John’s is ranked 17th.

The Tigers and Creighton played in the NCAA Tournament’s quarterfinal round last year at Clemson. The Tigers defeated Creighton 1-0 in regulation to advance to the Final Four.

Clemson finished the year with a 15-6-3 record overall. Dane Richards led the Tigers in scoring with 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points in 2005. Mark Buchholz had five goals and three assists for 13 points last season.
