CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s soccer team hosts No. 14 Syracuse in its ACC home opener on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field. The game is free for students with a Clemson ID. Additional tickets can be purchased online through the Clemson Ticket Office. The match will also be broadcast live via TigerCast on ClemsonTigers.com.
The Tigers improved to 4-3-0 on the season Wednesday night with a 6-0 victory over Gardner-Webb at Riggs. Sophomore Iman Mafi scored his first two goals of the season to lead Clemson offensively. Clemson currently leads the Atlantic Division in the ACC with a conference record of 1-0-0 after a 2-0 win at Boston College on Sept. 12.
Nine different Tigers have scored at least one goal so far this season, with five players scoring two. Junior T.J. Casner leads the team with seven total points. His three assists are also tops on the squad and tie him for second in the ACC. Redshirt junior Chris Glodack is tied for third in the ACC with 20 total saves.
Syracuse is ranked 14th nationally in this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com poll. The Orange sit at 5-1-0 on the season, and 0-1-0 in ACC play after a 1-0 loss to #4 Notre Dame on Sept. 13. Sophomore forward Emil Ekblom leads Syracuse in total points, goals and shot attempts.
Clemson and Syracuse last met on Nov. 1, 2013 in Syracuse. The Orange prevailed 1-0 that night, although the Tigers held the advantage in shots (12-5) and corner kick opportunities (6-1). Goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell saved two shots in the contest.
