Clemson Defeats UNC Greensboro, 3-1

CLEMSON, SC – Fabio Tambosi had three assists in fifth-ranked Clemson’s 3-1 win over UNC-Greensboro in a men’s intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Clemson improves to 2-0-1 on the year, while Greensboro falls to 1-1 this season.

Tambosi now has four assists this season and the senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil also has 21 for his career.

Clemson scored early in the game. Kenneth Cutler scored his first goal of the year with an assist by Tambosi. Both Tambosi and Andre Borges assisted on the Tigers’ second goal of the match at the 41:58 mark. as Dimelon Westfield scored his second goal of the season.

Clemson took a 3-0 advantage at the 53:21 mark when Chase Hilgenbrinck scored his first goal of the year with an assist by Tambosi.

UNC Greensboro scored at the 75:26 point into the match as Cliff Patterson sent a pass to Egill Atlason who scored from 12 yards out.

Clemson outshot the Spartans 22-15, Doug Warren, the Clemson goalkeeper, finished the match with seven saves. Warren now has 171 career saves and needs only four more to move into fourth place on the Clemson career list for most saves. Former Clemson standout Jamie Swanner (1982-83) had 174 saves during his career and is fourth in this category in Clemson history.

“I was very pleased with our defense in the first half,” said Clemson Head Coach Fabio Tambosi is playing at the top of his game. Oskar Bringsved is the unsung hero. He is an outstanding player and disrupts the opponent’s play in the midfield.”

Clemson will play at Duke on Saturday, September 14, at 7:00 p.m in the first ACC match of the season for the Tigers.
