Please remember, as an IPTAY member, you are considered a representative of an institution’s athletics interests (i.e., booster) for Clemson University. As such, the NCAA has strict guidelines concerning boosters and their interaction with prospective student-athletes (i.e., generally 9th – 12th graders or any other unofficial visitors, prep school students, and junior college student-athletes).
While Wednesday, November 11 is the first date of the 2020-21 National Letter of Intent signing period for all non-Football sport programs, it is important to remember that these individuals have not yet officially committed to our institution. Accordingly (and, in perpetuity), IPTAY members must refrain from engaging/messaging with prospects using such electronic mediums such as texting, email, and social media platforms. Our Clemson Tigers coaches are the individuals who are able to message prospects directly, and IPTAY members should not be communicating with prospects. For example, the below scenario would be contrary to NCAA rules:
Example of Impermissible IPTAY Member Communication with Prospect
There are numerous cautionary tales within the NCAA’s Division I membership of 357 institutions involving impermissible recruiting interaction by boosters with a prospective student-athlete, and it is imperative we do nothing to jeopardize the eligibility of future Clemson Tigers student-athletes.
