Clemson Adds Two Players to the 2009 Squad

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson Head Men¹s Soccer Coach, Phil Hindson has added two players, Alex Darsinos and Mike Mattson to the 2009 team Thursday.

Darsinos, a 5-9 150 pound midfield/forward, attended high school for three years in the United States and one year in Athens, Greece. At Montgomery Bell Academy, in Nashville, TN, he scored 64 career goals and was a member of the Tennessee ODP team. He is a two-time all-state selection.

During his senior year at American Community School of Athens, Alex participated in an international soccer tournament with this high school, where he scored 6 goals and had 2 assists of ACS¹s 9 total goals. He was also named an ISST All-Star Player. Darsinos was also a member of the Region III ODP team and leading points-scorer in the region league.

Mike Mattson, a 6-2, 190 pound forward, will play one year at Clemson after playing three years at Central Florida. He will enter graduate school at Clemson. At Central Florida he had nine goals and five assists during his career.

A four-year letter winner at Pope John Paul II High School, he earned All-Palm Beach County Honorable Mention honors as a freshman and second team honors as a sophomore. Mattson was voted the team’s most valuable player and claimed first-team all-county recognition as a junior. He scored 31 goals and recorded 21 assists as he was named all-state and all-county as a senior.

Mattson was also was the leading scorer on his club team, Weston Warriors Fury. This club team finished as the national runner-up in 2003 and semi-finalist in 2005.
