Cawthon Signs with Clemson

CLEMSON, SC – Reed Cawthon, a forward from Windermere, FL, has signed a national-letter-of-intent to play soccer for Clemson in 2014 as announced by Head Coach Mike Noonan. Cawthon played for The First Academy High School in Orlando coached by Biaggio Montiatui. Reed was named Florida Boys High School 1A Player of the Year and Central Florida All-Area Player-of-the-Year across all classifications for leading his team to an undefeated season and Class 1A state title, scoring both goals in the final of a 2-0 victory. As team captain, Cawthon scored 37 goals during the season, receiving All-Conference, All-Region, All-State and MVP honors. With 59 goals in his career, Cawthon set school records as the all-time leading scorer in both a season and career, and currently ranks in the top ten in goals per game for his senior year according to MAXPREPS. Cawthon plays his club soccer with FC America in Orlando, FL coached by Declan Link. Cawthon led his team in scoring as FC America achieved success in a number of tournament such as champions of the CASL Showcase, Nike Cup Champions, second place at the Disney Showcase, and final four finish in the Florida State League. Reed’s father, Frank, played for Clemson under the legendary Dr. I.M. Ibrahim.“A prolific goal scorer in high school and at the club level, Reed has a natural instinct in front of goal,” said Clemson Head Coach Mike Noonan. “He has great pace and a work ethic which has contributed to his success in the past and we hope can translate into goals in the ACC.”
