No. 3 Clemson Travels to Louisville for Regular Season Finale

CLEMSON, S.C. — The third-ranked Clemson men’s soccer team (12-2-2) is set to face Louisville (4-8-1) in its spring regular-season finale in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, April 9 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ACCNX as the teams take the field at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. 

Friday’s match will be just the eighth in series history, with Clemson holding a record of 4-2-1 through the first seven meetings. In the series, the Tigers have outscored the Cardinals, 12-6, and earned their largest margin of victory the last time the two sides met as Clemson went on to deliver a convincing 4-0 result on Oct. 11, 2019. Louisville and Clemson have faced seven common opponents this season and have respectively posted records of 3-6-1 and 9-1-1 in those matches.

The most notable match in the series was played on Nov. 16, 2014, as Clemson defeated Louisville in the final of the 2014 ACC Tournament, 2-1, winning the program its 14th ACC Championship. A golden goal by Ara Amirkhanian in the 105th minute secured the victory for the Tigers in Cary, N.C.

The Tigers’ have continually shown their prowess on both sides of the ball this season, as the team ranks ninth in the country and first in the conference in goal differential (+15). Clemson ranks second in the country in goals scored (29), 15th for assists (22), and eighth in points (80). Clemson Head Coach Mike Noonan will enter the match with a record of 346-182-73. Noonan’s 346 wins ranking eleventh amongst active Division I head coaches for most career wins.

Following Friday’s match, Clemson will set its sights on its final home contest of the season, as Clemson will host the winner of the ACC’s Coastal Division on April 17 in a match to determine the conference’s automatic qualifier for this year’s NCAA tournament. The match is set to be played at Historic Riggs Field at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACCN. Pittsburgh and North Carolina enter each of their respective matches this week with a chance to clinch the Coastal Division. If Pittsburgh were to win their match against Virginia this evening, Thursday, April 8, the Panthers would secure the Coastal Division and a trip to Clemson.
