CLEMSON, SC–Mark Lisi scored one goal and assisted on another in leading fourth-ranked Clemson to a 3-1 win over N.C. State in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer match at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Clemson improves its record to 7-1 overall, and 2-1 in the ACC. N.C. State falls to 1-6 overall, and 0-2 in league play. Clemson is ranked fourth in the Soccer America poll and ninth in the NSCAA poll.
Today’s ACC win was Clemson’s 100th all-time ACC regular season win. Clemson has a 100-29-16 record in ACC regular season matches since the program began in 1967.
N.C. State took a 1-0 lead with 16:59 gone in the match. Jeremy Ballenger fed Tony Malcolm in the box and his diagonal shot went into the left corner of the net.
Clemson evened the score at the 22:06 mark. Jeremy Iwaszkowiec passed the ball to Mark Lisi and on a give and go, Lisi led him with a pass just inside the box and Iwaszkowiec’s shot went into the upper left corner of the goal. This was Iwazkowiec’s second goal of the season.
On Clemson’s second goal, Ross Goodacre crossed the ball to Wojtek Krakowiac. Krakowiac volleyed the ball near the right post for his eighth goal of the season.
The Tigers took a 3-1 lead as Mark Lisi converted on a penalty kick. A hand ball violation was called on a N.C. State defender in the box. Lisi’s shot hit the right post and into the net.
Clemson will play host to the Clemson-Adidas Invitational on Friday and Sunday, in the Tigers’ next action. Clemson, Furman, New Hampshire, and Cal-Poly SLO will be the participants.
