RALEIGH, N.C. — The Clemson soccer team played NC State to a 2-2 tie today September 25 in men’s intercollegiate soccer action at Method Road.
The Tigers (3-3-2, 0-1-2 ACC) scored the only goal of the first half, as substitute Jeremy Iwaszkowiec followed in his own rebound, and put the ball past State goalie Mitchell Watson at the 24:37 mark.
The Wolfpack (3-2-2, 0-1-1 ACC) made a strong push early in the second half, which resulted in two goals for the Pack. First it was Matt Tabor who took a Shaker Asad pass and raced past the defense to tie the score in the 54th minute. Asad then netted is own goal in the 70th minute, with the assists going to Sebastian Rodriguez and Nick Olivencia to push NC State to a 2-1 lead.
The Wolfpack could not sustain that lead, as Clemson’s Lee Ibrahim took a pass from Ian Fuller and tucked the ball in the corner of the net with only 11 minutes remaining in regulation. The overtime period went back and forth as Clemson put seven shots on goal and NC State had two good scoring opportunities, but neither team could find the back of the net.
State keeper Mitchell Watson saw his first action in two games as he is coming off of a slight wrist injury, and played the entire game recording five saves. His counterpart, Tiger keeper Josh Campbell had four saves.
