CLEMSON, S.C. — Sophomore midfielder Ransford Gyan has been named a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, the United Soccer Coaches committee announced Tuesday. The native of Ghana adds to his many recognitions this season, already having been named an All-ACC First Team, the ACC Midfielder of the Year and two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Week.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most coveted individual honor in both men’s and women’s NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967.
Gyan was named the ACC Midfielder of the Year after finishing first on the team with eight goals and tied for second with eight assists. He was named First Team All-ACC and the No. 3 player on the TopDrawer Soccer Midseason Top 100 list. He was also named ACC Offensive Player of the Week on September 2 and September 9 after netting four goals for the week with three assists in Clemson’s wins over UAB and then-No. 10 Pitt.
The list of semifinalists includes fifteen players, and joining Gyan on the list from the ACC are Nikola Markovic and Donovan Phillip from NC State, and Nick Simmonds from Virginia. Full list of semifinalists can be found on the United Soccer Coaches website.
For this year’s trophy process, fans will be directed to participate in a FAN VOTE on the newly released and updated MAC Hermann Trophy website. This fan vote will allow fans to vote for the semifinalist of their choosing and boost this semifinalist to the official Finalists list in the coming weeks. The collective fan vote will be the equivalent of one coach’s vote – Top vote getter receives 3 points; 2nd vote getter receives 2 points: 3rd place vote getter receives 1 point.
