Clemson Volleyball Falls at North Carolina, 3-0

Chapel Hill, NC – The Clemson volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-27, 18-25, 20-25) to the University of North Carolina Friday night in Carmichael Auditorium. The Tigers fell to 17-12 (8-10 ACC) on the year, while the Tar Heels improved to 22-9 (13-5 ACC).

Clemson will now travel to Raleigh to take on NC State in Reynolds Gym on Saturday at 7:00 pm.

North Carolina’s defense held the Tigers to a .195 hitting percentage on the night. Serenat Yaz led the Tigers with 14 kills, while Sandra Adeleye added 10.

It was the second time this season the Tar Heels defeated the Tigers, giving them a 51-16 all-time series lead.

The Tigers dropped the first set 25-27. North Carolina used a balanced attack on offense and held Clemson to hitting just .183. Clemson led 22-17, but after a North Carolina timeout, the Tar Heels went on a 10-3 run to close out the set. Clemson senior libero Cansu Ozdemir recorded 13 digs in the set, a new career high for a single set. Ozdemir had 21 digs overall.

In the second set, the Tigers hit .257 but could not overcome a 6-1 start and .366 hitting percentage by the Tar Heels. The Tigers recorded only 12 kills in the set and only 10 digs.

The third set saw seven ties and three lead changes, but the Tar Heels came out on top 20-25. With the match tied at 16, the Tar Heels used two blocks from Courtney Johnston to spark a 5-1 run, a deficit the Tigers could not recover from.
