Clemson defeats N.C. State 4-3 in overtime.

CLEMSON, SC–Justin Moore scored two goals and had one assist in leading Clemson to a 4-3 overtime win over N.C. State in a men’s Atlantic Coast Conference match at Clemson, SC Friday night.

With the win, Clemson improves to 4-2 overall, and 1-1 in the ACC. N.C. State falls to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.

Havird Usry scored the winning goal with 8:47 left to go in the first sudden victory period. Moore assisted on the play.

N.C. State scored first at the 12:29 mark as Aaron King scored a goal with an assist by Federico Peria.

Clemson scored the next two goals as Justin Moore scored on a direct kick at the 49:09 point into the match. Steven Rhyne scored exactly 10 minutes later with assists by Hector Quintanar and Stuart Holden.

N.C. State’s El Hadj Cisse tied the score 2-2 as he score at the 62:43 mark in the match. Clemson took a 3-2 lead when Justin Moore scored on a direct kick with 9:12 left in regulation.

The Wolfpack evened the score 3-3 with 7:09 left to go in regulation as El Hadj Cisse scored his second goal of the night.

“It was a great soccer match,” said Clemson Head Coach. Both teams fought hard. Give N.C. State credit as they battled back after we had the lead twice. Also give credit to our guys. I thought we gave an unbelievable effort. I am so thrilled for our guys. It was a great atmosphere-an electric atmosphere at Riggs Field tonight.

“Everyone played well. Justin Moore goals were beautiful. I thought Steven Rhyne, it was a great team effort. This win gives us confidence and a big boost for the rest of the season. I could tell before the overtime period that our guys had fire in their eyes and they wanted this win.”
