CLEMSON, SC – Andre Borges scored early in the second half in leading Clemson to a 1-0 victory over Appalachian State in a men’s intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, SC Wednesday night.

Clemson improves to 6-6-2 overall, while Appalachian State falls to 4-9-1 this season.

Kenny Cutler sent a long pass to Grant Kevins on the right side. Kevins crossed the ball to Borges who scored from two yards out with a backheel shot at the 51:07 mark. This was his fourth goal of the season.

“It’s a win, it’s a shutout, and we played hard,” said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair. “At this point, we can’t afford to do otherwise. I thought we did a great job of being patient and we found a way to win. It’s a shutout for our defense. I told our team tonight that if they played hard, this will create breaks and in turn the breaks will produce favorable results. We are playing people out of positions because of the injuries. Our players have great attitudes and I tell them it’s about execution.”
