#18 Tigers Notch 4-3 Victory Over #24 BYU

Clemson, SC ­ The 18th-ranked Clemson Tigers defeated #24 Brigham Young, 4-3, in women’s tennis action on Monday afternoon. With the victory, Clemson bettered its record to 7-6 overall. The Cougars drop to 7-2 for the season. The Tigers won the doubles point for the third straight match and Julie Coin extended her singles winning streak to 12 matches.

Clemson took a 1-0 lead into singles play after winning the No.1 and No.2 doubles contests. Coin and Romy Farah defeated Dolly Chang and Lauren Jones at the top position, 8-3 while Maria Brito and Richele LeSaldo posted the victory over BYU’s Anastasia Sourkova and Jennifer Miccoli, 8-6. Clemson’s Ioana Paun and Carol Salge fell at the No.3 slot to Olga Boulytcheva and Sofia Holden, 8-4.

In singles play, Coin won her 12th straight singles match and 21st overall over Jones in the No.1 contest, 6-1, 6-2. Boulytcheva defeated Farah at the No.2 position, 6-4, 6-1. Alix Lacelarie returned to the lineup after suffering an injury against UCLA, but fell in the No.3 match to Sourkova, 6-2, 1-0. Brito won the No.4 contest for the Tigers with a victory over Holden, 6-4, 7-6(5) and Salge defeated Miccoli at the No.5 slot, 6-1, 7-6(4). In the No.6 match-up, LeSaldo fell to the Cougars’ Rebecca Pike, 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0.

The Tigers return to ACC action this weekend as they face NC State on Saturday and Wake Forest on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to start at 12:00 pm.
