Women’s Soccer Falls to Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Carole Dutchka scored the game’s only goal in leading seventh-seeded Penn State to a 1-0 win over Clemson in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament’s Round of 16 at State College, PA Saturday afternoon.

Dutchka scored her 12th goal of the season at the 61:47 mark with assists by Kelly Convey and Megan McKeown.

With the victory, Penn State improves to 21-3-1 overall, while the Lady Tigers complete the season at 16-7.

Clemson dominated Penn State in shooting, holding an 11-4 edge at a scoreless intermission. The Lady Tigers forward Jenny Crawford launched a shot at the buzzer that went in the net, but was ruled no good. The ball did not cross the goal line until after the horn. The Lady Tigers also hit the cross bar on two other occasions. Overall, Clemson out-shot Penn State 19-8. The Lady Tigers recorded six corner kicks to the Lions’ two.

Penn’s State’s freshman goalkeeper Emily Oleksiuk had eight saves, while Clemson freshman Katie Carson had four in 82 minutes of work. Clemson’s back-up keeper Julie Podhrasky stopped one shot in her eight minutes of guarding the net.

The game was played in 30-degree temperatures and a gusty wind.
