2024 Olympic Games Feature Ten Present and Former Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. – With the 2024 Olympic Games opening in Paris, France, on Friday, several competitors with Clemson ties are competing for gold. Six athletes and four administrators will represent four different countries in four sports (Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Track & Field, Rowing). Clemson has a rich Olympic tradition, consisting of 24 Olympic Medals, including 11 gold medals.

Kailen Sheridan is in pursuit of her second Gold Medal, having won one with Team Canada in Tokyo. Sheridan, who has been selected for three total Olympic Games, will be the starting goalkeeper for Canada, as this will be the keeper’s first Olympics as a designated starter. Hal Hershfelt, a 2023 College Cup Women’s Soccer team member, is an alternate on the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team as this marks her first Olympic Games.

Current student-athlete Aleksanda Stoilova, the Australian national champion in the 100 meters, will compete as part of the 4 x 100 relay team. Stoilova, who shined in her first season with the Tigers, was also a member of Clemson women’s 4×100 relay team, which advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Finals in Eugene, Ore. This will be Stoilova’s first Olympic appearance as she is the only current Clemson student-athlete to represent the Tigers in Paris.

Former Track and Field student-athletes Veronica Fraley, Rojé Stona and Natoya Goule will also be representing their respective countries in the 2024 Olympic Games as Fraley will compete in the women’s discus for the United States. Both Goule and Stona will compete for Jamaica; Goule in the women’s 800 meters and Stona in the men’s discus.

Director of Track and Field Mark Elliott is an assistant coach for Jamaica. The new Rowing Head Coach, Adrienne Martelli, an Olympic bronze medalist, is an assistant coach with USA Rowing. Assistant Track and Field Coach Lennox Graham was named a personal coach for 2023 100m Hurdles World Champion Danielle Williams, as she is set to compete in the 100m hurdles while representing Team Jamaica. Oguchi Onyewu, former Clemson men’s soccer standout for the 2000 and 2001 seasons, is a Team USA men’s soccer executive, serving as the Vice President of Sporting as of May 2023.
