San Diego, CA – The Clemson rowing program headed to the West Coast this weekend to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic. The Tigers fell just short of qualifying for the grand final in both the varsity 8+ and novice 8+ on Saturday, and as a result, will compete in petite finals Sunday morning.
The Tigers’ varsity 8+, ranked 12th in the nation, finished fourth in the second heat Saturday and will compete Sunday morning in the petite final. Clemson posted a season-best time of 6:49.43, but needed to place in the top three of the heat to advance to the grand final. The petite final is set for 9:30 AM Sunday.
The second varsity 8+ will also compete in the petite final of the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness group. Clemson’s #2 boat had a time of 7:16.67 and was just edged at the finish line by the crew from San Diego State for fourth place. Sunday’s petite final for the second varsity 8+ is scheduled for 8:50 AM.
The novice boat, coxed by Meredith Razzolini, put together a time of 7:44.47 and finished third in the first of three heats in that competition. Clemson will compete in the petite final of that event as well, Sunday morning at 8:10 AM.
