Clemson Earns Top-10 Finish at Head of the Charles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Clemson Tigers placed a boat in the top-10 at the Head of the Charles regatta this past weekend in Cambridge, Mass. The Tigers sent two crews to the regatta with one competing in the Club 8+ and the other in the Championship 8+.

In the first regatta under the leadership of Head Rowing Coach Adrienne Martelli, Clemson rowed in the Club 8+ event, where they placed ninth overall out of a 42-boat field. The Tigers finished with a time of 16:59.076, the fastest a Clemson crew has had at the Head of Charles since 2008.

“We are super proud of the race the Club 8+ put down today,” said Martelli when asked to comment about the crew’s performance, “It was gutsy, aggressive, and set the tone for the weekend.”

The Sunday crew raced in the Championship 8+ for the Tigers where they finished with a time of 16:44.528, breaking the record set Saturday for the new fastest time a Clemson crew has finished with at the Head of Charles since 2007.

“The Championship 8+ had a really solid and aggressive race against an extremely tough and competitive field,” commented Martelli on Sunday, “We’re looking forward to coming up to Princeton in two weekends for the Chase. It’s been a great fall so far with the entire squad and we’re really proud of the work they’ve put in so far!”

The Clemson Tigers will next be on the water on November 9th when they take part in the aforementioned Princeton Chase.
