TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In the final regatta of the fall season, the Clemson Rowing program podiumed in the Collegiate 4+ and had a top-five finish in the Collegiate 2- at the Head of the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Sunday morning.
The Tigers began the regatta by racing four boats in the Collegiate 4+ at 9 a.m. The Clemson A crew, lead the way for Clemson, earning a second-place finish with a time of 18:20.694 and a 19.013 second split while also surpassing the Alabama A crew. The Tiger B crew came in next, as the finished sixth after a 18:52.149 final time and a 50.468 split while Clemson’s C crew overtook Miami’s C crew for the seventh-place finish, where they etched a final time of 18:55.068 and a 54.387 second split. Clemson’s D crew took tenth place after a final time of 19:59.022.
After the Collegiate 4+, the Tigers placed five boats in the Collegiate 2-, an event with no coxswains in the boat with the two-woman crew. The Clemson B crew was the first to finish for the Tigers and placed fifth with a recorded time of 19:34.525 and a 20.530 second split. The Tiger’s D crew finished shortly behind them in seventh, after clocking in with a final time of 19:54.590, splitting 40.595. The Clemson A, E and C crews each finished consecutively and etched times of 20:31.145, 21:14.382 and 21:37.866 while splitting 1:17.150, 2:00.387 and 2:23.871, respectively. The Head of the Black Warrior River marked the first time this year that Clemson competed in any pair event. Additionally, a 1500-meter piece scrimmage took place in Collegiate 8+.
“It was a good wrap up to our fall racing season” said Head Rowing Coach Adrienne Martelli, “I think we took a nice step forward in what we’d been working on throughout the season. Now the focus shifts to training over the winter and prepping to hit the ground running in January.”
