Tiger Rowing to Compete at Aramark South/Central Sprints This Weekend

Clemson, SC – The Tiger rowing team will travel to Oak Ridge, TN this weekend to compete in the Aramark Central/South Sprints on Melton Hill Lake. The regatta will be held May 12-13 and will be hosted by the University of Tennessee. Clemson will be one of 23 schools competing in the event, including one of 10 from the South Region.

Last season, Ohio State claimed the Aramark Cup and Central Region title as well, while Tennessee captured the South Region title. Nine varsity 8+ boats ranked among the top 20 will compete in Oak Ridge this weekend. Clemson’s top boat has been ranked as high as #12 nationally this season as well.

Clemson’s action will get underway at 9:30 AM in the first heat of the novice 8+. The Tigers’ A boat will compete with North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and UCF in that heat. Clemson will also field a B boat, scheduled for the fourth prelim at 10:00 AM. The top three boats in each heat advance to the A/B semifinals Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers will be in the second heat of the varsity 4+ competition at 10:20 AM. Clemson will face Cincinnati, Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota in that prelim. The top three boats in each heat advance to the A/B semifinals Saturday afternoon.

In the second varsity 8+, Clemson will compete in the second of four heats. The Tigers will face crews from Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin at 11:00 AM. The top three from the four prelims will move on to the A/B semifinals Saturday afternoon, with the chance of advancing to Sunday’s grand finals.

The Tigers’ varsity 8+ will participate in the fourth and final heat of the preliminary round Saturday at noon. Clemson will face Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, SMU, and Texas. The Tigers have defeated both Michigan State and North Carolina in separate races this spring. The top three from each of the four heats move on to the A/B semifinals. The grand finals for the first varsity 8+ will be Sunday at 11:50 AM.
