CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team held its tenth annual class day competition Sunday morning on Lake Hartwell. The intra-squad event also included an alumni race and a team barbeque. Each class had a different theme and dressed in costume for the regatta. The teams consisted of the Freshmen “Holidays,” Socratic Sophomores, Burger King Juniors, and the Senior Superlatives.

Each class competed in a 1500m race, with the senior team coming out on top. The juniors came in second, while the sophomores and freshman came in third and fourth, respectively. The winning senior team was comprised of Elyse Roenick (coxswain), Suzanne Van Fleet, Ford Heiner, Blair Brendle, Lizzy Jennings, Jaime Horgan, Catie Cornett, Abbey Fernandez, and Lindsay Sheppard. This is the second year that this group has come away victorious, as they defeated last year’s seniors on class day.

The racing concluded with a fun 750m alumni race.

A team barbeque for friends, parents, and alumni followed the competition.

“The turnout was excellent and it was great to see the shared excitement by team members, alumni and parents. Our senior boat won class day but was followed closely by our juniors, with all racing hard and enjoying the afternoon,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “Our alumni also raced two 8s and it great to see them hold their Clemson oar. We look forward to the support of our alumni and parents as we all continue to move forward with great anticipation.”

Clemson will travel to Boston, MA to compete in the Head of the Charles regatta on October 20-21.
