Tiger Rowing Heads to Boston, MA for Sunday’s Head of the Charles Regatta

Oct. 20, 2006

The Clemson rowing team will travel to Boston, MA to compete in Sunday’s 42nd Head of the Charles regatta. The women’s championship 8+ competition, which will be held in the afternoon, will cover a race course approximately three miles in length. The Tigers will be one of 44 boats competing in the championship 8+.

The field includes many top-notch teams from around the country, including defending NCAA Champion Princeton. Brown and Washington State, two teams that also placed in the top five at the 2006 NCAA Championships in the first varsity 8+, will also compete Sunday. The Tigers have drawn the 15th starting position for the race, just ahead of crews from George Washington, Navy, and Syracuse.

This is the second regatta of the year for the Tiger rowing program. Clemson returns 28 letterwinners from the 2006 season, including CRCA (Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association) All-American Ford Heiner, Jessica Leidecker, Suzanne Van Fleet, Lindsay Sheppard, Elyse Roenick (coxswain).

Following this weekend’s festivities, the Tiger program will compete in the Head of the Hooch (November 4) and Rivanna Romp (November 12) to finish the fall conditioning season.
