Tiger Rowing Begins Spring Slate on Saturday

March 2, 2007

Clemson, SC – The Clemson rowing team will begin its spring season on Saturday by facing Eastern Michigan in a duel regatta at Lake Hartwell. The Tiger program, in its ninth season of existence, returns 28 letterwinners from the 2006 season. The regatta is scheduled to get underway at 9:00 AM Saturday.

This will mark the third straight spring that Eastern Michigan and Clemson have faced each other. On both previous occasions, the Tigers have swept the races from the Eagles. The two teams will compete in six different races Saturday, including three races in 4+ boats.

Both teams will enter just one boat apiece in the varsity 8+ and second varsity 8+, while the Tigers will field two boats in the novice 8+ competition at 9:40 AM. At 10:00, the varsity 8+ crews will split into two 4+ boats and compete. Following that race, the second varsity 8+ squads will do the same. The novice 4+ race at 10:40 will mark the final event of the day.

Clemson is coming off a strong fall season in which the Tigers performed well in several nationally-regarded regattas. Sarah Cooper returns as an All-America, All-Region, and All-ACC selection in 2006. She will continue to lead the varsity 8+ crew, which will contain a stronghold of juniors and seniors this season. Susie Lueck, head coach of the Tiger program, also returns her top three coxswains from a year ago.
