Rowing to Open Spring Season On Saturday

Clemson rowing will open their spring season this Saturday against the North Carolina Tar Heels. The regatta will begin at 9 am with the Varsity 8+ event on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, SC. The two teams will compete on the water in the Varstiy 8+, Novice 8+, Second Varsity 8+, Second Novice 8+, Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 4+ and Novice 4+ events.

The Tigers and Tar Heels last met on the water this past fall at the Head of the Hooch in Gainesville, GA. Clemson placed ahead of North Carolina in the four events where they faced each other. In the Varsity 8+ race, the Tigers took second with the Tar Heels following in sixth. Clemson rowed to a first place finish in the Varsity 4+ event where North Carolina’s three boats finished as high as eighth. The Tar Heels followed the Tigers closely in the Novice 8+ race where Clemson finished second and North Carolina took fourth and fifth.

North Carolina opened their spring season against rival Duke in a scrimmage at Lake Michie on February 29. The Tar Heels took first and second place in each of the four Novice 8+ pieces. Duke swept the 2nd Varsity 8+ set. North Carolina fought for close finishes in the Varsity 8+ pieces placing first in the second of four races.
