Rowing Releases 2005 Spring Schedule

Nov. 12, 2004

Clemson rowing released its 2005 spring schedule on Friday, with three home regattas highlighting the slate. The Tigers will compete on the regional scene, with events at home and at Oak Ridge, TN. Clemson will also compete nationally, as the Tigers travel west to participate in the San Diego Crew Classic and Windermere Crew Classic in California.

“The strength of this spring race schedule provides the Tigers with an opportunity to prove their speed on the national level,” Lueck said. “The Clemson rowers are committed daily to their trademark of consistency and intensity to forge ahead against national competition.”

The Tigers will begin the spring season at home in a dual regatta versus Eastern Michigan on March 5. Two weeks later, Clemson plays host to three schools who will be in town to train during spring break in the Clemson Challenge. The Tigers will compete with Purdue, Marist, and Indiana in that event. On March 26 the team travels to Oak Ridge, TN to take on Cincinnati and Dartmouth.

Following that, the Tigers will spend two consecutive April weekends in California for some top-notch competition. Clemson will race in the San Diego Crew Classic the weekend of April 2-3, then in the Windermere Crew Classic the following weekend. Clemson, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin will compete against California, UCLA, Stanford, and Washington in dual races over the two-day stretch. All of those opponents, with the exception of UCLA, have previously raced at the NCAA Rowing Championships.

Clemson will host the ACC Championships on Lake Hartwell for the second consecutive year. With the addition of Miami to the conference, this will be the first year that there are five boats competing in each event. The conference championship is scheduled for April 23.

The Central and South Regionals will be held in Oak Ridge, TN again this season, over the weekend of May 14-15. The NCAA Rowing Championships are in Sacramento, CA on March 27-29.

Clemson concluded its fall season last Saturday and Sunday in the Head of the Chattahoochee. The Tigers will now begin focusing on winter conditioning to prepare for the grueling spring season.
