Rowing Records Strong Performance at Head of the Charles

BOSTON, MA – The Clemson women’s rowing team recorded two top-11 finishes at the Head of the Charles in Boston, MA on Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers concluded the fall season having finished first or second in four of six races.

“We had a great weekend of racing,” said Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “I am very proud of how hard this team has progressed throughout the fall. We are looking forward to a fantastic spring racing season.”

The Tigers’ 1st Varsity 4+ kicked things off on Saturday with a second-place finish ahead of 43 other crews with a time of 18:42.774. The 1V4 finished behind first-place Fordham with a time of 18:39.390 and ahead of Boston University in third with a time of 18:43.402.

The second-place finish by the Varsity 4+ is tied for the highest finish by the Tigers at the Head of the Charles in the 4+ event. The Tigers 1V4 also finished second in 2008.

On Sunday, the Tigers’ 1st Varsity 8+ recorded an 11th-place finish against stiff competition with a time of 17:13.356. The 1V8 took on 39 squads, including ACC opponents Boston College, Notre Dame and Virginia. The Cambridge Boat Club finished first in the race while US Rowing finished second.

The 11th-place finish is also tied for the highest finish by the Varsity 8+ at the Head of the Charles. Clemson also finished 11th in Varsity 8+ in 2007 and 2008.

The will return to action when they kick off the spring season on March 1, 2014. The Tigers will host Eastern Michigan on Lake Hartwell.
