Rowing Competes in Clemson Classic

April 8, 2000

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team competed in the Clemson Classic against Louisville on Saturday morning on Lake Hartwell. In the Varsity 4+ race, Clemson A placed first with a time of 7:35.8, while Clemson B was second at 7:48.4.

Louisville took the Novice 8+ competition with a time of 6:49.0, while Clemson was second with a time of 7:01.6. The Cardinals won the Second Novice 8+ competition, recording a time of 7:18.2, and the Tigers were second, finishing 6.5 seconds back for a time of 7:24.7.

“Despite rough water and windy conditions, today’s racing was a good opportunity to see how fast we are against a fully-funded program with recruited high school rowers,” said Clemson head coach Susie Lueck. “We had good races and identified some areas that we can improve upon to find more speed for the rest of the season.”

The Tigers will row in the SIRA Championships April 15-16 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Clemson will face Duke, Tennessee, North Carolina, Central Florida and Louisville, plus several other club programs at the regatta.
