Rower Lucy Doolittle Named Second Team All-Central Region

July 18, 2000

Clemson, S.C. – Clemson’s Lucy Doolittle has been named second team All-Central Region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association, the highest honor awarded to a Clemson rower after just the second year of the program.

Doolittle, a sophomore from Mauldin, SC, was a member of the Tigers’ varsity 8+ that finished second at the inaugural ACC Championships and at the SIRA Championships, both in April. The varsity 8+ beat Purdue, Jacksonville, George Mason and Marist to win the Clemson Challenge in March.

Doolittle joins Lauren Henne and Katherine Sloan as postseason selections. Henne and Sloan were the first Clemson student-athletes to earn All-ACC rowing honors.

As a team, Clemson finished second at the ACC Championship behind Virginia. The Tigers finished fourth at the Lexus Central Sprints behind Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State, all of which advanced to the NCAA Championships.

The All-Region award is designed to recognize outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the 1999-2000 season. The criteria include meeting eligibility ruses as defined by her institution, participating in at least 75 percent of the season’s races in the varsity boat, and the student-athlete’s head coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA.
