No. 33 Men’s Tennis Downs Wake Forest, 5-2

CLEMSON, S.C.– 33rd ranked Clemson defeated Wake Forest 5-2 in men’s tennis on Saturday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Clemson swept the Demon Deacons in doubles and won four out of six singles matches in route to the victory.

With Clemson leading 3-2 in overall points, Luis Garcia defeated Raul Munoz of Wake Forest in a third set tie breaker to clinch the victory for the Tigers. Josh Goffi, Tomasz Boniecki, and Micah Thompson also picked up singles victories for Clemson. In doubles, Clemson’s 11th ranked team of Goffi and Darren Knight defeated Brett Mauro and Johan Hansen 8-4. Also, the 30th ranked Clemson pair of Boniecki and Marko Gojanovic defeated Raul Munoz and Mike Murray of Wake Forest 8-6.

With the win Clemson improved to 13-12 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. Clemson’s next match will be on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 against Virginia at Clemson’s Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. With a win over the Cavaliers, Clemson Head Coach Chuck Kriese can tie the all time record for total number of ACC wins.
