CLEMSON, SC – The 16th-ranked Clemson women’s rowing team finished second with 43 points at the ACC Championships on Lake Hartwell on Sunday. The Tigers also had three rowers named to the All-ACC team announced by the conference on Sunday.
“I thought our kids raced great today,” said Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “We raced really hard and just got beat by some boats that were faster than us today.”
Clemson’s 2nd Varsity 8+ crew recorded the best finish of the day with a second-place finish. The 2V8 recorded a time of 7:11.98 behind Virginia in first with a time of 7:05.17.
The Tigers were competitive throughout each of the other three races. In the first race of the day, Clemson’s 1st Varsity 4+ challenged Virginia and Duke but came in just short of the Blue Devils for a third-place finish.
Clemson’s 1st Novice 8+ followed up with a third-place finish behind Virginia and North Carolina. The 1N8 finished with a time of 7:33.01 behind Virginia’s first-place time of 7:18.61
In the final race, Clemson’s 1st Varsity 8+ finished third behind Virginia and Duke. The Tigers’ 1V8 finished with the third-best overall time of the day with a 6.57.47 mark.
Virginia won their fourth straight ACC Championship with 60 points. Clemson followed with 43 points ahead of Duke in third with 41 points. Miami finished fourth with 27 points, Boston College finished fifth with 23 points and North Carolina finished sixth with 16 points.
The ACC announced the All-ACC team following the championship events. Clemson rowers Caroline Hackler, Milena Heuer and Giulia Longatti each earned All-ACC honors.
The Tigers have now finished second at the ACC Championships for each of the last four seasons.
Clemson will now await a bid to the NCAA Rowing Championships in Indianapolis, IN from May 31 to June 2.
