CLEMSON, SC – The 16th-ranked Clemson women’s rowing team will host the 2013 ACC Rowing Championships on Lake Hartwell on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM. It will be the fourth straight season and 11th time overall that Clemson has hosted the event.

“Our team is really looking forward to the ACC Women’s Rowing Championships this Sunday,” said Clemson Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “All of our boats are prepared for some stiff competition from the ACC schools.”

Clemson will look to win its first ACC title since 2009. That year, the Tigers took the 1st Varsity 8+ and 1st Varsity 4+ races and edged Virginia by a score of 55-54. It is only time in ACC history that a school besides Virginia has won an ACC Rowing Championship.

Clemson will attempt to knock off sixth-ranked defending ACC and National Champion Virginia. The Cavaliers have won each of the last three ACC Championships and two of the last three NCAA Championships.

The Tigers are slated to be the #1 seed in the 1st Novice 8+ race. Clemson’s 1st Novice 8+ has finished first in seven of nine races, including three first-place finishes over top-10 opponents.

Clemson will be the #2 seed in the 1st Varsity 4+, 2nd Varsity 4+ and 1st Varsity 8+ races behind #1 seeded Virginia.

In 2012, Clemson’s 1st Varsity 4+ defeated Virginia to capture the ACC 1V4 Championship. As a team, the Tigers’ 52 points fell just short of Virginia with 56 points.

Clemson has already faced both Duke and Miami (FL) this season. The Tigers have finished ahead of the Blue Devils in eight of the 10 races in which both teams competed. Clemson also finished ahead of Miami in each of their three races against each other.
