Clemson Notes:

  • The Tigers open the season 3-0 for the 10th time in program history, last occurring in 2015.
  • Freshman forward Mariana Speckmaier found the back of the net in the 102nd minute to edge out No. 20 Auburn 2-1 in double-overtime in the home opener on Friday, Aug. 25.
  • Graduate midfielder Jenna Polonsky also scored against Auburn, earning her third goal of the season.
  • Polonsky also earned Top Drawer Soccer Honorable Mention Team of the Week
  • Prior to head coach Eddie Radwanski taking over the Clemson women’s soccer program, he spent 10 seasons as the head coach at UNCG. While at UNCG he led the Spartans to eight conference championship titles, five NCAA tournament appearances and had a record of 139-65-13.
  • Sophomore Sandy MacIver earned her first start and win of the 2017 season, after returning from her time in Northern Ireland with the England’s U-19 National Team competing at the U-19 EUROs.

UNCG Notes:

  • Last season UNCG finished with a 7-11-2 overall record and 4-4-1 in the Southern Conference.
  • The Spartans are off to a 1-2 start this season, falling 3-0 to Florida State on Friday, Aug. 18 and 1-0 to Charlotte on Monday, Aug. 21.
  • Emily Jensen scored the first goal of the season for UNCG in the 2-1 victory over Elon on Friday, Aug. 25.
  • Gabbi Charles leads the team with three points (one goal, one assist).

Series Notes:

  • Clemson has a 4-1 record in the series against UNCG, which dates back to 1994, the inaugural season for the Clemson program, and which it defeated the Spartans, 2-1.
  • The last regular season meeting between the two teams was a 3-0 victory for Clemson on Oct. 12, 1999 at Historic Riggs Field.
  • The last time the two teams met at UNCG, the match ended in a 2-1 overtime loss for Clemson on Oct. 19, 1997.
