Hewson Claims European Ladies’ Amateur Championship Title

Dorset, England — Recent Clemson graduate Alice Hewson fired an impressive final round 66 to claim the European Ladies’ Amatuer Championship at Parkstone Golf Club.

Before entering the final round of competition, Hewson sat in 20th place with a 54-hole total of 215. She worked her way up the leaderboard quickly by dropping six birdies and two eagles on the day, five of those would come before the turn.

Her six-under score on the afternoon would be enough to force a play-off with Krista Junkkari of Finland for the crown. Both Hewson and Junkkari remained even through three before Hewson pulled away on the 5th play-off hole to win her first ever European Championship as an individual.

Hewson caps off an extraordinary amateur career with two European team golds and the newly added European individual title. In addition to the hardware from the weekend, Hewson also receives a place in the Women’s British Open at Woburn.

She joins elite company as only the 4th English player to become European Champions (Bronte Law, Joanna Morley, & Emma Duggleby) as well as the first English player to win the title on home soil.
