GREENSBORO, NC – Eight members of the 2013 Clemson women’s rowing team were selected to the Academic All-ACC Rowing Team announced by Commissioner John D. Swafford on Friday.
The eight Clemson selections consisted of seniors Kate Biladeau, Katie Bruggeling and Heather Cummings, juniors Marie Arnold, Laura Basadonna and Laura D’Urso, and sophomores Caroline Hackler and Giulia Longatti.
“I am really proud of how our student-athletes have performed in the classroom,” said Clemson head coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “A tremendous amount of credit goes to the entire staff at Vickery Hall and especially our advisor Ginty Porter.”
Basadonna and Cummings each earned the honor for the third time in their respective careers. Biladeau, Bruggeling, D’Urso and Longatti were each named to the team for second time while Arnold and Hackler each were first-time honorees.
For Basadonna, this is the fourth honor she has received this season. She was named first-team All-South Region, National Scholar-Athlete and second-team All-American earlier this summer. She is the first Clemson rower to earn all four of those honors in the same season since Suzanne Van Fleet in 2008.
Cummings was also named second-team All-South Region this season while Hackler and Longatti were each named All-ACC. Arnold, D’Urso, Hackler and Longatti were each named National Scholar Athletes in addition to Basadonna.
Clemson led all schools with eight selections while Duke and Virginia each had seven selections apiece. Clemson has had no less than five members selected to the Academic All-ACC team since it began for rowing in 2006.
Eight Academic All-ACC selections is tied for the third most in Clemson history. Clemson had 11 Academic All-ACC rowers in 2009 and 10 in 2012.
