GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s first varsity eight was named the initial 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Crew of the Week for the week of March 22. The nationally ranked Tigers defeated crews from Indiana, Alabama, Purdue and Marist this past Saturday on Lake Hartwell in Clemson. This is the first honor of the season for the Tigers.

The Tigers’ 12th ranked first varsity eight boat, which is composed of Kelly Murphy (Marietta, Ga.), Liz Robb (Roswell, Ga.), Brittany Cummings (Virginia Beach, Va.), Sarah Daanen (Hayden, Id.), Becca Brown (Greenville, S.C.), Michelle Nance (Simpsonville, S.C.), Zsofia Bende (Mohacs, Hungary) and coxswain Katie Bruggeling (St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada), finished first in a time of 6:44.15, outdistancing Indiana (6:49.66), Purdue (6:53.83), Alabama (7:07.62) and Marist (7:27.27) in the Clemson Sprints.

In all, Clemson captured all four events in which it competed, also taking the Second Varsity Eight, the First Varsity Four and the Novice Eight competitions.

The Tigers, the defending ACC Champions, are coached by Richard Ruggieri, now in his third season as head coach of the Clemson Rowing program.
