Clemson’s First Varsity Eight Named ACC Crew of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s first varsity eight has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week after turning in a landmark victory last Saturday at Belleville Lake in Belleville, Mich.

The Tigers’ first varsity eight crew of Abbey Fernandez (coxswain), Lizzy Jennings, Suzanne Van Fleet, Brittany Cummings, Lindsay Sheppard, Jessica Leidecker and Kristen Weinacker triumphed over a trio of nationally ranked teams in No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 14 Michigan State and No. 15 Michigan.

The crew posted the program’s first-ever wins over Michigan and Michigan State, winning the race with a season-best time of 6:51.36. The Tigers finished ahead of Notre Dame (6:54.44), Michigan State (6:57.20) and Michigan (6:58.54).

Clemson will head west to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic this Saturday, March 31, in San Diego, Calif.
