Clemson, SC – The 15th-ranked Clemson Women’s Rowing team recorded strong performances over Indiana, Boston University, Marist, Purdue, Syracuse and Alabama Saturday morning. A Clemson boat won each of the six races during perfect racing conditions on Lake Hartwell.

“This was a great early season test for us,” said Clemson Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “It was exciting to see seven boats lined up at the starting line this early in the season. We start our spring break training next week after a well-earned day off tomorrow. We will work on getting everyone just a little bit faster every day and continue to build on the great start we have had this spring.”

In the first race of the day, it was Clemson’s first Varsity 8 boat that jumped out to an early lead. The Tigers held on to win the race with a time of 6:39.85, ahead of Indiana, who finished with a second-place time of 6:45.17. Alabama finished in third (6.52.05), just ahead of Boston University (6:52.67) and Syracuse (6:55.99). Purdue finished in 6th with a time of 7:08.25 and Marist rounded out the field with a time of 7:25.35.

The second Varsity 8 race again saw a battle between Clemson and Indiana for first place, with the Tigers coming out on top with a time of 6:44.49. The Hoosiers finished with a time of 6:52.28 and Alabama followed closely behind with a third-place time of 6:56.98. Syracuse and Boston University finished in fourth (7:00.86) and fifth (7:05.35), respectively. Purdue finished the race in sixth (7:16.22), followed by Marist in seventh (7:26.27).

In the first Varsity 4 race, once again it was the Tigers who finished ahead of the field with a time of 7:41.32; Alabama followed closely behind with a time of 7:46.57. Syracuse finished with a third-place time of 7:51.03, just edging out Boston University who finished with a time of 7:51.82. Indiana came in fifth (7:55.81) and Purdue finished with a sixth-place time of 8:23.15. Marist finished the race with a time of 8:26.67.

The Novice 8 race was a battle to the end, with Clemson edging out the A-boat from Indiana with times of 7:09.21 and 7:11.0, respectively. It was also a battle for third place, with Alabama finishing ahead of the B-boat from Indiana with times of 7:32.02 and 7:39.02, respectively. Purdue and Marist rounded out the field, finishing with times of 7:57.57 and 8:57.18, respectively.

The third Varsity 8 race saw Clemson finish with a time of 7:14.69, followed by Syracuse, who finished with a time of 7:28.42. Boston University and Purdue traded leads throughout the race, with Boston University finishing in third (7:36.26) and Purdue finishing in fourth (7:37.15).

The final race of the day was another exciting one, with Clemson’s A second Varsity 4 boat finishing in first (7:48.57), followed by Boston University (7:57.64). Alabama came in third (8:04.44) and Indiana came in fourth (8:15.93). Clemson’s B and C boats came in fifth (8:27.91) and sixth (8:54.55), with Purdue finishing the race with a time of 9:01.27.

“I can’t thank my staff enough for all their help,” said Tenenbaum. “Lincoln LaRoe, Jessica Leidecker and Adam Bruce have done a tremendous job in helping me get our team ready to race this spring, and our trainer Kelly Turney and strength coach Josh Hudak have also played a big role in our success. It has been a true team effort, and it is a lot of fun to come to the boathouse every day.”

The Tigers return to action next Saturday, April 3, when they travel to Columbus, OH to take on Michigan and Ohio State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
