Clemson Wins the Carolina’s Cup Women’s Soccer Tournament

GREENVILLE, SC–Julie Bolt, Katie Vogel, and Molly Franklin all scored goals in leading Clemson to a 3-0 win over Charlotte in the Carolina’s Cup Women’s Soccer Tournament at Greenville, SC Monday evening.

With the victory, Clemson wins the championship with a 2-0 mark in the tournament. Clemson defeated Furman 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in the first day of the tournament.

Clemson is now 4-2 on the year, and Charlotte falls to 3-2-1 this season.

Clemson scored first in the second minute. Bolt drove down the right side of the field. She sent a curving, crossing shot outside of the box into the nets for her first goal of the season.

The Lady Tigers scored in the 67th minute to take a 2-0 advantage. Katie Vogel on the left. Vogel sent a looping shot into the right wall of the net from 19 yards out for her second goal of the season.

Molly Franklin scored her second goal of the year in the 82nd minute with assists by Nuria Zufia and Molly Johnson to give the Lady Tigers a 3-0 advantage.

The Lady Tigers will play at South Carolina in Columbia on Friday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m. in Clemson’s next action.

“Our young people are coming together, and we are playing better as a team,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “Today was the best we have played all year on both sides of the ball. We won the championship today and we leave with two wins and two shutouts. We still have a long way to go and we feel good about where we are at this point in the season.”
