Clemson Tops NC State In Men’s Tennis, 6-1

Clemson, S.C. – The 67th-ranked Clemson men’s tennis team swept doubles competition and won five out of six singles matches to defeat NC State 6-1 on Friday night at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. It was Clemson’s 22nd straight win over NC State. Also with the win, the Tigers improved their record to 5-18 overall and 2-5 in the ACC.

In doubles, the Tigers dominated NC State by winning all three matches and capturing the doubles point. At number-one doubles, Clemson’s pair of Brad Emendorfer and Darren Knight downed Eric Jackson and Reinaldo Valor of NC State by a score of 8-6. For Knight, that was his team leading 19th overall doubles win this season. At the number-two position, the Tigers’ Josh Goffi and Marko Gojanovic knocked off Michael Carducci and Ryan Boward 8-5 while Lee Taylor Walker and Eric Cohn teamed up to defeat Brad Kilgore and John Davis 8-2 in the number-three slot.

Clemson was equally as impressive in singles as they won five out of the six matches against the Wolfpack. For Clemson, 61st-ranked Josh Goffi won in the number-one slot, Brad Emendorfor was victorious at number-two, Marko Gojanovic cruised at number-three, and Micah Thompson was impressive in his match in the number-four slot. Picking up the other singles win for Clemson was Kevin Gottfried who won a three-set match over Bryce McGrory in the number-six position.

Clemson will next be in action on Sunday, April 15, as the Tigers host North Carolina in match to be played in Belton, SC at 1:00PM.
