Clemson Setter Jessi Betcher Garners ACC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

CLEMSON, SC – Jessi Betcher of Clemson University was named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Betcher led the Tigers to consecutive wins over Wofford, Virginia Tech, Coastal Carolina and TCU en route to being named the Most Valuable Player at the Clemson Invitational.

The native of Boulder, CO, collected 184 assists last week, good enough to put her atop Clemson’s all-time assists record. She broke the previous assists record in the match against Coastal Carolina with her season-high 64 assist performance, then added 50 assists against TCU to give her 4,362 assists. The previous record was 4,305 assists, set by Michelle Thieke Young, who played at Clemson between 1994-1997 and is now the head coach at Furman University. As a freshman, Betcher recorded 1,431 assists, then tallied 1,298 as a sophomore and 1,027 as a junior. This season, she has added 606 assists to her career total.

The senior setter also contributed 3.62 digs per game and 1.38 kills per game, while hitting .300 over the four matches. The Clemson volleyball team returns to action Tuesday night as the Tigers travel to Greenville to take on the Furman Paladins in a 7:00 PM match at Timmons Arena.
