Clemson Rowing Sweeps Eastern Michigan Saturday

March 6, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team opened the spring season with a sweep of Eastern Michigan Saturday on Lake Hartwell. The teams raced in three 2000 meter races and the Tigers took first in each.

“It was good to get a race in early and we are thankful Eastern Michigan continues to return to Clemson,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “With regards to racing, I thought the 2nd Varsity 8 really shined this morning. They were prepared, aggressive and focused. Overall, I believe this season will be about learning from each race and creating a level of performance based upon executing the task regardless of the environment. With that said, this is a good group of women who want to be successful and I hope we can guide them towards that success.”

The first race was between the top varsity teams from each school. The Tigers top crew took the win in a time of 7:03.31 and Eastern Michigan came in with a time of 7:27.98.

In the second race of the day, the third varsity teams took to the water. Clemson team came in first in a time of 7:30.78 and the Eagles finished second with an 8:15.21.

The final race pitted Clemson’s second varsity team against Eastern Michigan’s with the Tigers taking the win with a time of 7:04.18 and the Eagles coming in at 7:42.71.

The Tigers will return to the water next Saturday, March 13 as they host Boston University on Lake Hartwell at 9:00 a.m.
