Clemson Rowing Successful Against Alabama, Marist, and Pennsylvania on Saturday Morning

Clemson, SC – Despite cold and rainy conditions, Clemson’s rowing team was successful against Alabama, Marist, and Pennsylvania on Saturday morning. The Tigers won 15 out of 17 pieces in a regatta held on Lake Hartwell.

Clemson’s Varsity 8+, currently ranked 13th in the country, swept all three of their pieces. In the first piece, the Tigers finished 15 seconds ahead of Penn with a time of 5:10.93. Clemson finished with a time of 5:11.01 in the second piece, ahead of Penn’s 5:22.54 and Alabama’s 5:54.9. In the third piece, the Tigers were again victorious with a time of 5:11.4.

Clemson’s Second Varsity 8+ also swept all three pieces, defeating crews from Alabama, Marist, and Penn. They finished with times of 5:21.4, 5:25.6, and 5:23.4.

The Novice 8+ crews from Clemson and Alabama were in tight competition throughout the morning. Alabama won the first two pieces by a small margin, but Clemson came back to win the final piece with a time of 5:34.29.

The Varsity 4+ pieces were also dominated by Clemson. The Tigers were consistent, finishing with times of 5:52.4, 5:58.9 and 5:58.8.

Clemson was significantly faster than Penn and Alabama in the Second Varsity 4+ pieces. The Tigers finished 28 seconds ahead of Penn in the first piece, 36 seconds faster in the second and 33 seconds better in the final piece.

The Second Novice 8+ raced in just two pieces, but came out on top each time against the Quakers from Pennsylvania.

“Overall we had a good performance and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to race a great deal,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “We will look at the areas we need to improve and work very hard on them this upcoming spring break.”

The Tigers will return to action against Indiana and Purdue this coming Saturday on Lake Hartwell at 9:00 AM.
