Clemson Rowing has Successful Day Against Boston University

March 13, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team won four out of the five races against Boston University Saturday morning on Lake Hartwell. The two teams competed in five 2000 meter races.

“Today was a very good team effort,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “Coming into the week I felt we were behind in some areas but I am very proud of the work by our rowers. When you race a program like Boston University you know it is important to be ready. They motivated us to take care of some weak areas and I hope to build upon this as we enter spring break. We have another challenging week of racing ahead but for now it is all about rowing well and getting faster.”

The Tigers started the day off strong with the varsity eight crew coming in first in a time of 6:51.00 over the Terriers’ top crew, who finished with a time of 7:12.02. The varsity eight crew members were Allison Colberg at bow, Brittany Cummings, Sarah Daanen, Liz Robb, Beata Saska, Zofia Bende and Kelly Murphy.

In the second race of the day, Clemson’s second varsity eight group of cox Melissa Weaver, Connie Gorman, Callen Erdeky, Leah Kelly, Katharine Mosier, Grace Wolff, Lydia Hassell and Taylor Hoynacki took the win posting a time of 7:06.91 over Boston’s 7:17.33.

Then the varsity four, cox Meredith Razzolini, Mairi Trimboli and Corey Geer took to the water and continued the Tigers win streak coming in at 7:44.16 and Boston’s varsity four finished second in a time of 7:59.58.

The third race featured the novice eight crews from each school. Clemson’s group of cox Erin Grubbs, Kelly Hall, Kate Biladeau and Ameerah Aly at stroke took the win with the largest margin on the day as they finished in a time of 7:01.96, while the Terriers finished second in a time of 8:00.53.
