Clemson Rowing Dominates Second Home Regatta

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Women’s Rowing Team swept the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 races Saturday morning on Lake Hartwell. The Novice 8 and Novice 4 boats recorded strong performances in their season debuts.

“I am very proud of our team,” said Clemson Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “Everyone has been improving, and that improvement really showed up on race day.”

In the first race of the day, it was a battle between Clemson’s 1st Varsity 8 boat and Clemson’s 2nd Varsity 8 boat, with the 1st V8 finishing in first place with a time of 6:43.47. The 2nd V8 finished in second with a time of 6:51.25 and the 3rd V8 finished in third with a time of 7:12.71. Clemson’s Novice 8 boat came in fourth in their first race of the season, recording a time of 7:21.71. The University of Charleston (WV) finished in fifth with a time of 8:03.60.

The Varsity 4 race saw another battle between two Clemson boats for first place. Clemson’s 3rd V4 finished in first place with a time of 7:59.54. The 4th V4 was close behind with a time of 8:05.98. The Novice 4 finished in third in their season debut with a time of 8:42.83 and the 5th V4 finished in fourth with a time of 8:47.25. The University of Charleston (WV) Novice 4 finished in fifth with a time of 10:31.01.

“It is a lot of fun watching our team race. We have more depth this year, and everyone on the team is getting pushed every day in practice to get a little bit better. It is also really great to see our team having fun and enjoying all of the hard work we put in everyday. We are still testing out new lineups and we will work really hard this week as we prepare to welcome in Indiana, Alabama, Boston University, Syracuse, Purdue and Marist next weekend. It should be a great event to watch, with some exciting seven-boat racing,” Tenenbaum continued.

The Tigers return to the water next weekend, hosting Indiana, Alabama, Boston University, Syracuse, Purdue and Marist at 9:00 am on Saturday.
