Clemson Rowing Defeats Villanova

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson rowing team defeated Villanova in the Clemson Challenge at the Head of Lake Hartwell on Saturday morning.

In the Varsity 8+ race, Clemson finished first with a time of 6:55.2. The Tigers’ boat in the second Varsity 8+ finished in 7:06.1, which was 26.6 seconds better than the Villanova Lightweight boat.

Clemson’s time of 7:14.2 bettered Villanova in the Novice 8+, but the second Novice 8+ came down to the wire. The Tigers edged out Villanova’s Lightweight boat by just .8 seconds to take the win with a time of 7:43.1.

In the Varsity 4+s, Clemson came in at 7:49.7, 5.6 seconds ahead of Villanova. The Tigers also triumphed in the second Varsity 4+s race with a time of 8:06.4.

“It was a great day for racing, ” said Clemson head coach Susie Lueck. “The conditions were good and the competition was good. It was fun to go head-to-head down the course and see good results.”

The Clemson rowing team will be in action next Saturday at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, TX, and then return home for the Clemson Invitational on Mar. 24.
