Clemson Rowing Concludes Saturday Regattas

March 25, 2006

The Clemson rowing team completed two separate regattas on Saturday. The Tigers’ novice 8+ crew competed in the Clemson Sprints on Lake Hartwell, an event hosted by the Clemson Club Crew. The varsity 8+ and second varsity 8+ competed against Southern Cal at the Port of Los Angeles.

Both varsity crews finished in second place behind the Trojans from Southern Cal. Racing on a course with no buoys and an incoming tide, Clemson fought hard in both events on Saturday. Southern Cal finished in a time of 6:20.59 in the varsity 8+ race, while Clemson came home in 6:37.62. It marked the Tigers’ best time of the spring season so far. In the second varsity 8+ race, USC finished in 6:34.72 and Clemson came in at 6:58.11.

On the shores of Lake Hartwell for the Clemson Sprints, the novice 8+ crew acted as the varsity 8+ for the Tigers on Saturday. Clemson won the event, despite blustery wind conditions. The Tigers’ boat finished in 8:21.0, ahead of a Georgia club team and College of Charleston club team. The rest of the field was rounded out by St. Andrews and Northwestern High Schools, and the Clemson University Rowing Association.

The Tiger rowing program returns to action on Saturday, April 1 to host North Carolina and Central Florida. That event is scheduled to get underway at 9:00 AM.
